Privacy Policy for ComPearApple

Last updated: 7 October 2026

1. Who we are

ComPearApple is operated by Matthew Harris, an independent developer based in Bradford, England, UK. Contact hello@compearapple.com about your data or this policy.

2. Account and activity data

We collect your email address, account identifier and chosen username. Google or Apple sign-in can also provide a display name and profile information; we do not receive your password for those services.

We store the information needed to provide the features you use:

We do not request GPS location, contacts, phone numbers or payment-card details. Choosing a streaming country is a preference, not a GPS measurement. Our hosting and SDK providers receive technical information such as IP addresses when your device connects; advertising services may use IP addresses to estimate an approximate location.

3. Uses and visibility

We use account and activity data to operate the service, personalise recommendations, calculate compatibility, deliver requested notifications and subscriptions, prevent abuse and respond to support requests. Contract performance and legitimate interests support these uses; where required, advertising and tracking depend on consent. We do not sell your lists, ratings or messages to advertisers.

Your profile and public lists can be visible to other people. Friends-only lists, comparisons and group conversations follow the app's access controls. Uploaded banners can be seen only by you and your friends, and Space pictures only by that Space's members. Both are stored privately and shown through links that only those people can obtain and that expire within an hour; someone given such a link could open the picture until it expires. Avoid uploading sensitive information.

Taste and Interest summaries use the rating history needed to provide the feature. There is no separate retention or product-quality analytics event stream. Some catalogue rankings use separately labelled AI-generated priors; these are not user votes.

4. Advertising, diagnostics and notifications

On mobile, free accounts see Google AdMob ads. Premium accounts are exempt from app ad requests. Google Mobile Ads can process IP addresses, device/advertising identifiers, app interactions and diagnostic information for advertising, measurement and fraud prevention. Google’s consent messaging determines whether ads can be requested. When required, Settings offers Ad privacy choices to review or withdraw your choices. On iOS, tracking permission is also controlled through Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt and device settings. Declining tracking does not prevent using ComPearApple.

Firebase Crashlytics receives crash reports, error details, app version, device/OS information and installation identifiers to help diagnose failures. Error messages can contain contextual information; we do not intentionally send passwords or payment-card details. Firebase Cloud Messaging delivers notifications using device tokens. The notification permission is requested through Settings, and notification previews may appear on your lock screen according to your device settings.

We send account emails, such as email confirmations and username reminders, and deliver feedback to our support inbox through Resend, our email provider. Resend processes the recipient address and the message content to deliver them.

Google Play or Apple processes subscription payments, and RevenueCat processes subscription identifiers and entitlement information. We do not receive payment-card details. See Google's privacy policy, Firebase privacy information and RevenueCat's privacy policy.

5. Content providers

Catalogue data and artwork come from the following sources. Direct requests for artwork or fallback searches reveal your IP address and normal request information to the receiving service. Requests sent through our backend reveal our server address instead. Following an external viewing or source link opens that provider's service under its own policies.

Artwork rights remain with the relevant owners. For a disputed image, use the cover-art report link in Settings, or email hello@compearapple.com with the item and rights concern.

6. Storage, moderation and international processing

Our primary Supabase project is hosted in the EU (Ireland). Service providers including Google, Apple, RevenueCat and content hosts may process data in other countries under their applicable safeguards and terms. The app connects only over encrypted HTTPS; unencrypted HTTP connections are blocked. Artwork that a provider offers only over HTTP is not shown.

Chat in Comparisons, Spaces and Sessions is screened on our servers using word, phrase and spam rules. Chat screening does not send message text to an AI provider. Approved messages are stored; rejected messages are not posted. Temporary posting approvals expire after two minutes and are removed after use or during later requests. Reports can retain a copy of the reported message and relevant identifiers as moderation evidence after the original message is removed. Authorised moderators review reports. You can report a message or block its author.

7. Retention and account deletion

We keep account and activity data while needed to provide your account and features. To delete your account in the app, open Settings, Account controls, then Delete account. Read the confirmation and hold the delete button for five seconds. The deletion flow removes profile/owned-Space uploads and deletes your account and associated live database records. Deleting the app from your device does not delete your account or cancel a store subscription.

You can also request deletion without reinstalling the app: use our account deletion page, or email hello@compearapple.com from your account address with the subject ComPearApple account deletion. We may verify ownership before processing the request. Never send your password. Cancel any subscription separately through Google Play or Apple subscription settings.

Feedback linked to your account is deleted with your account. Feedback sent while signed out, and the support emails that feedback creates, are kept as support records; email hello@compearapple.com to have them deleted.

Moderation evidence, records required to resolve disputes or comply with legal obligations, and provider backup or diagnostic records may remain after deletion for their applicable retention period. Deleted database records can remain in our hosting provider's daily backups for about 7 days, until those backups expire. Uploaded banners and Space pictures are not included in those backups. Copies already obtained by other users cannot always be recalled. Contact us for information about retained records associated with your account.

8. Your choices and rights

Depending on applicable law, you can request access, correction, export, deletion or restriction of your personal data, object to processing, and withdraw consent where we rely on it. Email hello@compearapple.com. We reply to privacy and deletion requests within 30 days of receiving them, and aim to acknowledge them sooner. You may complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or your local supervisory authority. Notification and tracking permissions can also be changed in device settings.

9. Age requirement

ComPearApple is intended for people aged 16 and over, as stated at sign-up. It is not directed at children. Contact us if you believe an underage person has created an account.

10. Changes

We will update this policy when our practices change and give appropriate notice of material changes. A policy update does not itself provide consent for a new use that requires it.
